This is an excellent book for beginners and advance Marquetarians. The book starts with the basics, materials, tools and cutting (both knife and saw). There is a description of various techniques and a number of different methods including the window method. The writing is easy to follow and accompanied by detailed coloured pictures that make it easy to follow along.
There is also a detailed description of parquetry and also how to finish a piece of work with boarders, sanding and polishing.
The book is complete with a number of projects including a tray, table, jewelry box, and a screen. The final chapter is a furniture makers’ gallery. Jack and John were kind enough to include detailed pattern drawings for the projects included in the book.
Jack's book has been accepted by the City & Guilds in London as the basis for their training courses. "A fully supported and approved publication for students taking City & Guild (C&G) furniture making and/or furniture restoration, in colleges across the UK, the book follows the course curriculum set by C&G for veneering and marquetry." - www.the-marquetry-course.net
